Cointelegraph and CoinMarketCap Front Ends Compromised with Scam Links
Cointelegraph, a leading cryptocurrency media platform, suffered a front-end security breach on June 22, exposing users to a malicious pop-up promoting a fake token (CTG) and a counterfeit ICO campaign. Blockchain security firm Scam Sniffer identified the exploit as a JavaScript payload embedded via the site's advertising infrastructure, originating from a recently registered domain mimicking AdButler.
The attackers deceived users into connecting their wallets, risking asset drainage. Cointelegraph has warned users against interacting with pop-ups and is actively investigating the breach. This incident follows a similar exploit targeting CoinMarketCap on June 20, underscoring growing vulnerabilities in crypto media platforms.
